Dr. Muhammad Al-Sulaimi, the specialist in general, endoscopic and obesity surgery at Al-Sabah Hospital announced the success of a very large and indirect inguinal hernia operation on a 17-year-old patient.

Dr Al-Sulaimi explained that the case of hernias that reached the “testis” is rare, as the majority of cases occur during childbirth, indicating that the operation was performed using an endoscope, and a network was made for the patient, reports a local Arabic daily.

He added the Department of General and Laparoscopic Surgery performs about 4 inguinal hernias per week, and we reach about 16 cases per month, and about 180 cases per year, explaining that the success rates of these cases reach about 99 percent.

Speaking about the prevalence of inguinal hernia in society, Al-Sulaimi said that there are about 1,700 cases per 100,000 people of all ages, up to 4,000 cases per 100,000 people over the age of 45, meaning that the cases increase with age and explained that most cases are diagnosed in the age group between 40 and 59 years, indicating that the infection of males is 8 times more than females.

Al-Sulaimi advised inguinal hernia patients to avoid obesity, and to perform weight-reduction operations if necessary and were unable to control their weight, in addition to the need to avoid exposure to cases of constipation and treat urinary problems such as prostate enlargement.
