The Director General of the Municipality, Eng. Ahmed Al-Manfouhi, speaking on the issue of completion of approving the study of the Kuwait City 2030 development project in his response to the question submitted by member Eng Sharifa Al-Shalfan, said the functions of the Historical Buildings Preservation Department are to explore and document the conditions of these buildings in Kuwait, to conduct and follow up special studies to prepare a national archive of archaeological and historical buildings, and to review the designs of all buildings to be built adjacent to the areas of historical buildings, to preserve their special character, as well as participate in supervising historical and heritage buildings in Kuwait with the competent authorities.

Al-Manfouhi stressed that a report will be prepared on the permitted activities within the historical buildings of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, to be presented to the Municipal Council, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Regarding dilapidated buildings, Al-Manfouhi pointed out the dilapidated and abandoned real estate committee was formed pursuant to Administrative Resolution No. A95/2022 dated 7/24/2022 comprising specialist Kuwaiti technicians working in the municipality to ensure the general appearance is not distorted during restoration, maintenance, or demolition works, noting that coordination is underway with the municipality branches in the governorate to report abandoned or dilapidated properties for study by the committee.
