15-year-old student from Indian Educational Kuwait is all set to become the first badminton player from Kuwait to represent the state Kerala.

Neha Susan Biju, a class 10 student is set to take part in the Under-17 category National badminton championship 2023 to be held in Hyderabad, India from September 14 – 19. Neha will team up with Chase Sijo from India in the mixed doubles category.

Neha joined Indian Educational School Kuwait in 2012 as a Kindergartener and she started holding the racquet at a very tender age. Her flair for playing badminton was initially noticed by Dr. S. Murugaiyan, the Physical Education faculty head of IES. He was her first coach at IES and taught Neha the basic skills.  After observing her exceptional skills, he suggested to Neha’s parents that she should be enrolled in the badminton coaching club in Kuwait. She had undergone rigorous coaching under the watchful eyes of her coaches at Spark Club, IBAK and I-SMASH.

Neha has won a number of tournaments in Kuwait and back in India. Her recent victory during the summer of 2023, in the mixed doubles U-17 category at the prestigious Kerala State Junior (Under 15 & 17) Championship which took place at Nazar School of Badminton, Karunagapally, Kollam, from 20th to 23rd July 2023 provided her a golden opportunity to enter into the Kerala State team.

Neha’s parents Mr. Bjiu and Mrs. Seema have walked that extra mile to ensure that Neha received the best training facilities in Kuwait and in India. They are the proud parents today and are eagerly looking forward to the results of the National Championship. The management, staff and students of IES are equally proud of Neha’s remarkable entry into the state team and the whole school is in a celebratory mood now.
