148 workers organized a strike in Mahboula on June 24 as they had not received their salaries for three months (March – April – May) for this year, reports Al Rai daily. The emergency team of the workforce protection sector in the authority went to the strike site to consider the workers’ complaints and take the necessary legal measures against the company

The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) revealed the measures it has taken to handle the labor strike in the Mahboula area last week, by addressing the Minister of Oil and the Minister of Electricity and Water to reserve the financial guarantee and payments from the contracting company until the workers’ rights are ensured.

The authority stated, “The sector started, through the emergency team, to call the employer at the strike site, where he reported the end of the government contract since 22 January and the end of the contract with the foreign partner on 21 January, and the company submitted the documents stating the end of the contract, as well as the foreign partner’s acknowledgment of its responsibility in all financial, administrative and legal matters as well as labor entitlements for all workers registered under the contract and the upholding of their labor rights”

She pointed out that, “after the company submitted the documents confirming what it reported, the authority submitted on June 26 this issue to the Minister of Social Affairs and the Minister of State for Economic Affairs to address the Minister of Oil and the Minister of Electricity and Water to take what is necessary, particularly withholding the financial guarantee and scheduled payments for the company and stopping the company administratively with the authority until it fulfills the workers’ rights, as the Ministry coordinated with the commission regarding the matter.
