Finance Minister Munaf Al-Hajri said, Saturday, that the strategic alternative to salaries is still under study, and its elements that achieve its original goals have not been completed in a way that serves the public administration and the national economy in general.

Minister Al-Hajri said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency that the issue of the strategic alternative to salaries came because of the need to achieve justice among state employees, reports Al-Rai daily.

He indicated that these goals will not be achieved “if only the issue of salaries is dealt with without measuring the performance in a modern way that motivates the employee to develop cognitively and professionally.”

He went on to say that “no new proposal should create additional reluctance for Kuwaitis to work in the private sector, as is the case at the moment because of the long working hours and its focus on measuring the employee’s performance and productivity.”

Minister Al-Hajri added that any treatment of the strategic alternative should “not affect the sustainability of the state’s public finances or the government’s ability to launch tangible projects in sectors such as housing, tourism and transportation and what requires greater capital spending.”

He stressed that “what is currently being circulated on social media about the strategic alternative is inaccurate and unrealistic in its numbers.”
