The Ministry of Education (MoE) is supporting the return of stranded teachers to Kuwait, whose residency had expired while abroad, by issuing new entry visas, Al-Anba daily reported, quoting senior government sources.

The sources stated that issuing new entry visas for teachers with expired residency visas and stranded outside the country, is the best legal solution because there is a legal obstacle preventing the renewal of expired residency permits for people while they are outside the country. The sources indicated that the issuance of visas will include the teachers with certain specializations needed by MoE. These teachers will be able to return to Kuwait, according to the procedures in place.

The issuance of entry visas for stranded teachers includes those present in countries on the 35 ban country list, and other countries. MoE is unable to renew the residency of any teacher online after their visa has expired while outside the country, after a law came into force urging online renewal of visas.

This is in addition to the fact that the issue of renewing teachers’ residency visas in accordance with Article 17 requires paying renewal fees to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), which is in charge of the residency renewal of those inside Kuwait, but due to the exceptional circumstances of the coronavirus, some exceptions are approved.
