The Coronavirus Emergency Committee headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh has to give his approval for any government agency wishing to repatriate its stranded staff abroad via charter flights, informed sources made it clear in private statements to Al-Anba daily.

The daily said, quoting sources that a list of the expats’ names and professions, which are allowed to return, should be checked to ensure their validity, and then the request submitted to the committee for approval. The option for the return of expats is only available for the ten categories identified by the Council of Ministers to be necessary to rejoin their positions in the country.

The daily said, quoting sources that there are also expatriates who wish to leave Kuwait via charter flights. Depending on their destination, the government agency interested to ensure the travel of some of its staff to their home countries from the same side can apply for approval from the committee, so they can return. There are no prohibitions or conditions for using charter flights to transport expats of countries on the 34 country ban list on direct flights from Kuwait to leave to their countries, subject to approval by the Corona Emergency Committee.

Charter flights for expats to travel directly from their countries to Kuwait, aside from approval from the committee, is also subject to the approval of the civil aviation, which mandates a period of institutional quarantine inside the country.

The Ministry of Education has prepared the numbers and specializations of teachers required to be repatriated for the start of the school year after 6 days, Al-Anba daily said.
