The Environment Public Authority has spotted the steppe eagle, which is one of the most abundant eagles in Kuwait, pointing out that ‘the biggest threat to it locally is due to poaching’.
The steppe is a large bird of prey that feeds mainly on big carcasses, but may also hunt small mammals, reptiles and birds, and sometimes steal food from other predators.
It is 75 centimeters long, with a wingspan of from 175 centimeters to 210 centimeters, and is found in the steppes (grassland without trees) and semi-deserts, where it mainly inhabits vast semi-arid areas of grassland and the bottom of hills, swamps and landfills.
