Minister of Finance, Dr Nayef al-Hajraf is soon expected to issue a decision that will enable public sector employees to receive 180 days salary in cash, in lieu of their annual leave, prior to their retirement.
Disclosing this to the media, MP Khalil Al-Saleh said that he had discussed the issue with the Minister of Finance and reached a positive agreement to amend the Civil Service Law to give employees the right to encash their leave subject to certain clauses.
He pointed out that the current law enables an employee to encash his leave only at the time of retirement. The new decision will allow employees to benefit from it during their service period.
The parliamentarian added that the decision was a victory for the rights of employees, by giving them the right to exchange their leave for a cash allowance without the need to wait for retirement, in addition to helping reduce the burden on citizens.
