The Spanish parliament supports Kuwait’s quest to waive the Schengen visa on its citizens and is ready to back these efforts within the European Parliament (EP), Spanish Senate President Pilar Llop said. Llop made the remarks during a meeting with Kuwait’s Ambassador in Madrid Eyada Al-Saeedi at her office, Kuwait Embassy said in a statement Thursday. She said the Spanish House of Representatives and Senate is ready to support Kuwait’s bid, within EP, for a Schengen visa waiver.

Kuwait and the European Union (EU) have been negotiating exempting Kuwaiti citizens from the Schengen requirement when entering EU countries. Meanwhile, Llop and Al-Saeedi called for exchanging expertise to confront the coronavirus pandemic, said the statement. They reaffirmed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy to promoting cooperation and develop relations to achieve international peace and stability. Llop also wished a speedy recovery for His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
