Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya cut short her visit to Kuwait and suspended her onward visit to Iraq, after a member of her delegation was found positive with the Corona virus upon arrival in Kuwait, informed sources told The Times Kuwait.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in its account on the “Twitter” social network that the delegation that was traveling with two negative (PCR) tests conducted in the previous 72 hours, had tested positive in the third examination upon his arrival in Kuwait.

Although the rest of the Minister’s delegation proved negative in the same tests, the meetings that were scheduled in a precautionary measure were canceled and part of the agenda continued online, but it was decided in the end to suspend the official visit to Kuwait and Iraq. The delegation returned back to Spain after a 24 hour stay in Kuwait

Reliable sources told The Times Kuwait that the minister was expected to sign three agreements and also have meetings with HH the Amir, HH the Crown Prince, HH the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya was expected to handover letters to the Kuwait leadership from the King of Spain as well as the president with a message of enhancing bilateral relations.

It was decided as a followup to the visit the foreign minister of Kuwait would be visiting Spain sometime soon.

During her three day stay she was scheduled to visit KISR and also hold meetings with chairman of KDIPA, and meet members of the Spanish military based in Camp Arifjan and interact with Spanish business community.

The visit to Kuwait and Iraq was a continuation of a tour to the Gulf countries that Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya began last February with visits to Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar.
