A defect in the Ministry of Interior system paralyzed the movement of people for more than 3 hours, especially the departures sections at the Nuwaiseeb and Salmi ports.

A local Arabic daily said the defect coincided with the departure and arrival at the end of working hours Thursday. After about three and a half hours, the malfunction in the system was rectified and the Ministry of Interior apologized to the citizens for the delay.

Well-informed security sources told the daily, “the cause of the technical malfunction that affected the system was not known, and that the information systems technicians played a major role in solving the problem.

The sources pointed out that “most travelers preferred to wait in their vehicles in front of the passport gates instead of returning.”

With regard to the airports, the sources stated that “the security men used the special query program to check the passengers, manually register their data and stamp the passports after making sure that there is no travel ban on them, with the aim of not stopping the airport movement.

The sources explained the residence and traffic affairs sectors did not have any option but to ask the visitors to return on Sunday to complete their transactions.
