The head of the Kuwaiti Fishermen’s Union, Zaher Al-Soyyan, expressed appreciation and lauded the decision by the Director-General of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR), Sheikh Muhammad Al- Yousef, and the Deputy Director- General of the Fisheries Sector, Marzouq Al-Hebi, for permitting the extension of the shrimp fishing season to Feb 1, similar to the neighboring countries at the behest of the Fishermen’s Union, Al Rai daily reported.

Al-Soyyan said in a statement on Monday that this decision was in response to requests by the union, which was also praised for being in the public interest and will give the Kuwaiti consumer an opportunity to enjoy the local shrimp throughout January, just like the neighboring countries do.

Al-Soyyan expects opportunities will soon arise to meet the interests of the fishermen, which will see support for the local product, and pointed out that good is coming, God willing, and there are promising changes to further satisfy all demands.

He went on to say all requests of fishermen are currently being studied by the concerned authorities.
