The Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources has announced that starting from today, licensed Kuwaiti fishing vessels will be permitted to catch shrimps in the designated territorial waters.

This decision comes as a result of Resolution No. 695 of 2023 issued by the authority, which requires the fishing vessels to obtain a prior permit from the authority before engaging in shrimp fishing in the special economic zone, reports Al-Rai daily quoting KUNA.

The shrimp fishing season in the special economic zone will run until the end of January 2024. As for Kuwaiti territorial waters, the shrimp fishing season will begin on the first of next September but only for holders of back haul licenses.

This comes after a fishing ban of over 6 months, aiming to safeguard the resources of the marine environment and enhance the fish stock for the future. The preservation of the marine wealth is of utmost importance to ensure a sustainable and prosperous fishing industry.
