First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid stressed readiness and constant vigilance to control any smuggling attempts or infiltration through “our territorial waters, especially drug dealer networks that try to introduce their toxins into the country using all methods of smuggling by land, sea and air.”

He said this during an inspection visit he made to the Sabah Al-Ahmad Naval Base to see the completion of work that was previously suspended and the inauguration of rapid intervention units and interceptor patrols that were developed and reconstructed as part of a comprehensive plan for the development, maintenance and repair of all marine vessels to enhance maritime field readiness, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled appreciated the efforts of the General Administration of the Coast Guard and the constant endeavor to develop work mechanisms according to modern technologies, to secure the Kuwaiti territorial waters.

During the visit to the General Administration of the Coast Guard (Sabah Al-Ahmad Naval Base), the Minister of Interior was accompanied by a number of security leaders. He was received by the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for the Ports and Borders Security Sector, Major General Mansour Al-Awadi, and the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Financial Affairs and Support Services Sheikh Hammoud Mubarak Al-Sabah and the Director of the Department. The General of the Coast Guard, Major General Talal Al-Mounis, and a number of sector leaders.

During the visit, the Minister of Interior inaugurated some naval vessels, which recently joined service at the Sabah Al-Ahmad Naval Base. The number is 8 naval vessels for rapid intervention, made in the Netherlands with the latest international technology, and 11 interceptor patrols that have been developed and reconstructed as part of a comprehensive plan for the development, maintenance and repair of all marine vessels to enhance maritime field readiness.
