Informed sources in the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transportation (PART) revealed is coordination with the General Traffic Department the Ministry of Public Works will temporarily close all safety lanes on highways for use by motorists to help MPW workers to install manhole covers in those lanes and also carry out maintenance works in order to avoid a recurrence of the manhole cover accidents that killed a citizen last week.
The sources told Al-Rai that “the closure of the lanes will be in phases, in order to avoid confusing the traffic, especially at peak times when highways witness great congestion,” noting that “the highways in which safety lanes have been converted into traffic lanes are the Fahaheel Road, Fifth Ring Road (Sheikh Zayed Road), King Fahd Road and Sixth Ring Road (Jassem Al-Kharafi Road).
As of yesterday, the safety lane was closed on the Fahaheel Expressway towards Kuwait City in coordination with the General Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior and the Roads Authority.
