Saudi Arabia sustained 22 more deaths due to the fatal bug, the novel coronavirus, raising the death toll to 480 since the outbreak of the contagious disease in the Gulf state.
Saudi Ministry of Health said in its daily report about the contagion in the kingdom, on Saturday, that 1,618 persons tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) increasing the count to the staggering level of 83,384.
It put number of recoveries at 58,883 after registering 1,870 patients cured of the contagious disease.
Qatar reports highest single-day increase in coronavirus infections
Qatar has reported its biggest single-day increase in confirmed coronavirus cases since the pandemic hit the Gulf nation.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, 2,355 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of confirmed cases 55,262.
As many as 5,235 COVID-19 patients have also recovered, bringing the total number of recovered people in Qatar to 25,839, leaving 29,387 active cases under treatment.
No new deaths were reported today, keeping the death toll in the country at 36.
The ministry revealed it has conducted 5,091 new COVID-19 tests in last 24 hours taking the total tests done so far to 217,988.
The ministry also recorded 18 new patients being admitted to intensive care due to the virus, bringing the total number of cases currently in intensive care to 217.
It emphasised that infections doubled due to family gatherings and visits between friends and extended families, and people ignoring the preventive measures recommended by the concerned authorities – the most important of which is staying at home and maintaining social distance.
The ministry noted that Qatar was still in the peak phase of the virus outbreak, which is seeing a rise in the number of infections recorded daily, and therefore it is necessary to adhere to, more than ever before, the preventive measures and social measures recommended. This includes maintaining physical distance from others in the workplace and public places, using a face mask and avoiding social visits to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.
