Saudi Arabia decided on Friday not to extend all precautionary coronavirus measures imposed on February 3, an Interior Ministry official source said. Accordingly, cinemas, indoor entertainment centers and gyms and sports centers, as well as restaurants, cafes, and shopping centers, will reopen as of next Sunday, the source said in a statement aired by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) Friday evening.

The ministry, however, has maintained the suspension of all celebrations and wedding parties as well as companies’ gatherings, the source added. It allowed social gatherings only with no more than 20 persons, the statement noted, stressing the necessity of people’s abidance by these measures to maintain public health of the society. There will be campaigns in the upcoming period to make sure of adherence of all individuals and facilities by these precautionary measures and to fine the violators, it noted. All precautionary measures are subjected to continual evaluation by competent authorities regarding the epidemical development, it pointed out.

The source has revealed that this move was taken upon assuring indicators included in health authorities’ reports on the measures taken by the country in the face of combating the COVID19. The Ministry of Interior announced on February 3 some precautionary measures for ten days to combat the spread of the coronavirus. They included the suspension of all activities and entertainment events, and the closure of cinemas as well as others.
