The Kuwait Sadu Association, in cooperation with the International Council of Museums (ICOM), had launched a platform to provide local resources for museum professionals, connect participants in the field, and promote cooperation, Al Jarida reported.

According to the head of the association, Sheikha Bibi Duaij Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the platform will build a network for professionals in the field and serve as an opportunity to interact and keep up with the latest developments in the museum industry. She pointed out that the platform deals with international museum issues each year with the aim of advancing museums and preserving cultural heritage through specific topics each year, while stressing the importance of expressing identity, enriching local culture, developing contemporary creations, through the preservation and support of handicrafts and culture.

Sheikha Bibi said that the partnership aims to preserve the heritage of weaving in Kuwait, as well as to transfer its artistic methods to future generations, highlight Kuwaiti cultural heritage, and introduce it locally and globally.

According to Dr. Sondos Al-Rashed, the head of the National Committee for Museums (Icom Kuwait), cooperation with the Sadu Association stems from the importance of promoting partnerships and museum activities in Kuwait. He stressed the importance of maintaining museums and developing their activities in society as they contribute to the preservation of cultural history and artistic creativity, and emphasized that the platform seeks to enhance dialogue between museum specialists and to establish a network among cultural activists.

ICOM is a global organization that was established in 1946 under the umbrella of the United Nations. ICOM is headquartered in Paris and has over 50,000 members from 122 countries. ICOM’s mission is to promote the development of museums and to coordinate their activities. ICOM’s membership includes museums, museum professionals, and individuals who are interested in museums. In 2022, the National Committee for Museums, Aecom Kuwait, joined ICOM to represent Kuwait.
