Many landlords, eager to squeeze the last dinar out of their precious real-estate space, have resorted to constructing shanty structures on the roofs of their buildings and renting it out to bachelors and even families.
Not only are such flimsy structures a fire hazard that could trap and kill the occupants and destroy the building, they are also increasingly become an eyesore to those living in nearby highrises.
The municipality is now rumored to be reading itself to launch inspections of buildings with rooftop shanties and to warn the owners of such buildings, as well as the residents of these structures to have them removed immediately.
