The Ministry of Public Works said a committee has been formed to evaluate the bids submitted by international companies which are vying for road maintenance contracts across various governorates. The committee is expected to conclude its assessment by the end of this month or early September at the latest. This assessment will identify the successful bidders for the ten tenders which have been floated by the ministry.

These sources have emphasized that following the committee’s selection of the winning companies, the ministry will work to obtain approvals from regulatory authorities to ascertain the commencement date for road maintenance in both the local governorates and highways, reports Al-Rai daily.

The committee members are currently engaged in a meticulous review of the offers submitted by international companies, intending to formulate recommendations and pinpoint the most favorable proposals for each individual tender.

Once contracts are officially signed with the chosen enterprises, the maintenance initiatives are set to kick off around mid-September. Initial focus will be on restoring roads within the most deteriorated governorates, with the same principle applied to highways.

The ministry’s aim is to alleviate the difficulties arising from the degradation of extensive road sections. All stakeholders involved in the maintenance contracts, led by Minister Amani Bouqmaz, have invested significant efforts to achieve the desired outcomes. These endeavors will ultimately lead to a comprehensive and high-quality repair of roads and streets.

The sources highlighted how Minister Bouqmaz, accompanied by ministry officials, previously engaged with representatives from the Audit Bureau. The discussion encompassed the ministry’s strategy concerning contracts with international firms, rationale behind adopting restricted practices limited to companies recommended by their respective embassies, as well as the situation of local workers within these contracts.

The minister’s personal commitment to overseeing the road maintenance initiative is evidenced by her meticulous monitoring of procedures. This engagement extends from the initial stage of tender preparations to the contract-signing phase and eventual commencement of maintenance operations.
