Due to the remarkable reduction in coronavirus infections as a result of residents following health guidelines, the Cabinet decided in its last extraordinary meeting to lift the lockdown in Hawally and Khaitan.

Many residents expressed their joy in Hawally and Khaitan as they continued to wear face masks and follow social distancing. Once the lockdown is lifted, the residents from these areas will be able to return to work, especially as many occupy positions in important companies which require their services to start the process for gradual return to normalcy.

The residents have stated that other than minor issues like transportation for leaving and returning from work, they have no other issues.  In Hawally area, vehicle owners got their vehicles road ready in preparation for a return to life. The movement in the streets and shops was very normal with fewer people outside in the streets and roads, as everyone was busy preparing for the first day of work.

The expat bachelors in Khaitan area were relieved and stated to the daily that removing the lockdown from the areas allowed them to resume earning their livelihood and send money to their struggling families in their countries for food and medicine. They stated that many of them will return to work in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area or other sectors where they are employed in construction, contracting operations, restaurants and companies operating in various fields. In these three-weeks of lockdown, Khaitan residents stressed that they understood the importance of adhering to the health precautions to keep social distancing and stay at home and ensure all aspects of public hygiene.
