447,000 residency permits were canceled in 2020, which included 276,000 employees in the private sector, who had their residency revoked, nearly 14,000 in the government sector, while 94,000 domestic workers gave up their residencies and 63,000 individuals on family residency permits had departed from the country, Al Qabas daily reported.

These statistics were released by the Central Statistical Bureau in their migration report for 2020 and highlighted the resulting changes in demographics.

The report revealed that the total number of residency violators in the past year was 42,234 expats, most of whom had temporary residency (Article 14), and domestic workers came in second place, with a total of 12,000.

The report stated that Kuwait granted new residency permits to 30,588 expats in the past year, which is the lowest number compared to the past three years.
