The Taipei Commercial Representative Office in Kuwait hosted a virtual ceremony on 12 October on the occasion of the 109th National Day of Republic of China (Taiwan), which also highlighted the close friendship between Taiwan and Kuwait.

Taiwan Representative in Kuwait, H.E. Hua-wei Mou delivered his remarks to the audience online. Representative Mou, on behalf of the Taiwan Government, expressed his deepest condolences on the passing of the former Kuwait ruler His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He also extended sincere congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the 16th Amir of the State of Kuwait, and Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the crown prince.

Rep. Mou indicated that Taiwan has successfully contained the spread of COVID-19 to become one of the few countries in the world that maintained positive economic growth. Taiwan’s support to the world in containing the spread of COVID-19 is efficient and practical, and includes the donation of more than 60 million masks, 170,000 protective clothing and 600,000 isolation gowns to over 80 countries. This showed the world that Taiwan can help and Taiwan is helping, he added.

Calling for greater collaborative efforts between Kuwait and Taiwan, Rep. Mou pointed out that disregarding the pandemic interference, Taiwan and Kuwait have accomplished a lot in diversified fields, such as preparing epidemic protection equipment for frontline health workers, sharing Artificial Intelligence technology for medical purposes, and physician training between the major hospitals of these two countries. He particularly welcomed the formation of Kuwait-Taiwan Friendship Group at the beginning of 2020.

H.E. Sheikh Duaji Al-Sabah, Dr. Mustafa Behbehani, the President of Taiwan-Kuwait Friendship Group, the former the Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Civil Service Commission Mr. Mohammed Al-Roomi, and the media worker Mr. Abdulkarim Al-Hendal were invited to this online ceremony.
