Over the past week, the security and traffic campaigns resulted in issuing 26,000 traffic citations, arresting 64 reckless drivers, referring 179 vehicles and motorcycles to the ministry garage, and 16 juveniles were sent to the Juvenile Prosecution, after they were caught driving without a driving license.

The Public Relations and Traffic Awareness Department at the GTD, Major Abdullah Bu Hassan, said that the campaigns were carried in all the governorates throughout the past week, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The department also dealt with 1564 accidents, 234 of them serious and 1330 minor accidents. This is in addition to dealing with 3417 various reports received by the operations room of the Ministry of Interior.

Bu Hassan stated that the men in uniform also arrested 102 security persons wanted by law for various reasons, such as those reported absconding, violators of residence and labor law, criminals and those who did not carry their personal identification papers.

The securitymen also impounded 8 vehicles required by security and judicial authorities, and issued 5 violations for parking vehicles in places reserved for the disabled people.

Bu Hassan added that the patrolmen of the General Directorate of Rescue Police referred 5 people to the General Directorate for Drug Control, after they were caught in abnormal condition, and they were found in possession of narcotics and drug substances.

He explained that the Coordination and Follow-up Department of Traffic Planning and Research Sector, carried out a number of security campaigns and targeted delivery vehicles and motorcycles and punished the violators.

On the other hand, Bu Hassan said that the Technical Affairs Sector of the General Traffic Department, in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, organized a field security campaign targeting the Shuwaikh Industrial Area, which resulted in the closure of two vehicle repair garages, after it was found that they were selling and installing annoying sound systems on vehicles.
