With the approaching month of Ramadan, fears are rising of the crowds and social events that will surely take place on the occasion leading to the spread of coronavirus, in addition to the daunting challenges facing the Ministry of Health and other concerned parties to achieve community immunity and reduce infections, Al Qabas daily reported

While efforts to contain the pandemic continue, health observers warn of the high rate of infections in the days leading up to the advent of the fasting month due to the usual crowding by citizens and expats in complexes and markets, in addition to social visits, which threatens to spread the coronavirus infection, especially among the elderly.

When Health officials revealed that the Ministry of Health had developed a plan to strengthen community immunity before Ramadan, they made it clear that preparations were completed to accelerate the pace of vaccinations for the largest possible number of citizens and expats to obtain the Coronavirus vaccine during the coming period, after the arrival of large quantities of vaccines.

According to officials, the ministry aims to accelerate the pace of vaccinations, especially with the arrival of quantities of the Oxford vaccine, at 200,000 doses, sufficient to vaccinate 100,000 people. The Health ministry is closely monitoring the latest developments in vaccines, which are undergoing clinical and recent trials.  Accordingly, the Johnson & Johnson and Novavax vaccines will be imported next May after it is officially approved.

In addition, there will be intensive media campaigns aimed at underlining the importance of continuing to implement preventative health requirements, especially before and during Ramadan.
