With phenomenal camera capabilities, elegant design, and 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge, the HUAWEI P50 Pro outshines the competition

Recently we saw the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S22+, Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone. So, just like any other tech nerd, we are itching to compare it with the crowd favorite – also dubbed as the best camera phone with aesthetic design by many – HUAWEI P50 Pro. Let’s see how these two flagship phones compare against each other.

Cameras

Following the legacy of past P-Series phones, the HUAWEI P50 Pro comes with some great cameras. The phone features True-Form Dual-Matrix Camera that comprises the Main Camera Matrix and SuperZoom Matrix. Here you are getting a 50MP True-Chroma Camera, another 40MP monochromatic camera, a 13MP Ultra-Wide angle camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera. The phone also has a 13MP selfie camera. Aside from the hardware, the HUAWEI XD Optics and HUAWEI XD Fusion image engine results in brighter and clearer images with more details. You will also see some drastic improvements in colors because, this time, Huawei tweaked over 2000 colors in the full-color gamut. On top of that, the new Super Colour Filter system, True-Chroma Engine, and Super HDR technology work behind the scenes to improve the details, colors, and dynamic range. What’s more, the True-Form Dual-Matrix Camera supports 4K video recording on both the front and rear, providing crystal clear footage from every angle.

The periscope zoom lens on the HUAWEI P50 Pro is something that you will find quite useful. Using this camera, which has a zoom range of up to 200 times, you can bring faraway objects closer and take some incredible photos. To help users capture better images, the phone also has the new generation of AIS Pro image stabilization technology and the all-new OIS hardware. Additionally, the phone brings notable improvements with high-speed autofocus, zero-latency shutter, smart metering, and motion-blur reduction technologies.

The S22+ comes with three cameras on the back and one selfie camera. The main camera system includes a 12MP ultrawide, a 50MP wide-angle, and 10MP telephoto cameras. The telephoto shooter supports 3X optical zoom and 30X hybrid zoom. To compensate for the quality loss in the digital zoom, the phone employs some software enhancements. The new Nightography feature helps users with low light and nighttime shooting. Talking about selfies, you get a 10MP front-facing camera that offers decent picture quality.

Design

The HUAWEI P50 Pro will be easy to tell apart from other phones with the iconic Dual-Matrix camera design. It perfectly balances form and function. The double ring set-up is visually striking and instantly recognizable while incorporating the most advanced smartphone camera hardware. The HUAWEI P50 Pro uses a 3D curved screen with a single punch hole camera. With an HDR display supporting the full P3 color gamut, it delivers a stunning visual experience for both video entertainment and gameplay alike. The display on the HUAWEI P50 Pro features a 6.6-inch 120Hz True-Chroma Display with a 300Hz touch-sampling rate. The 120 Hz high refresh rate allows for a smoother display, and the 300 Hz touch sampling rate provides a faster display response time. With an IP68 rating, you can be sure you will be protected from the elements when out and about.

If you have seen the last year’s Galaxy S21+, then you have pretty much seen the S22+, as well. The design hasn’t changed much at all this year. The signature camera housing on the back of the phone from last year is also unchanged. There’s some slight difference in the hand feel of the device, though. It is slightly boxier, and the edges feel sharper. Also, the phone has become a tad bit smaller. While the last year’s model had a 6.7-inch screen, the S22+ comes with a 6.6-inch screen.

Battery and Charging

The HUAWEI P50 Pro achieves a perfect balance of battery life and fast charging speed. It incorporates a massive 4,360mAh battery into its slim body while also supporting 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge and 50W Wireless HUAWEI SuperCharge.

Samsung has shrunk the battery capacity for the Plus model this year. You will be getting a 4500mAh battery in the S22+. However, the 45W wired and 15W wireless charging speed is slower than the HUAWEI P50 Pro. Also, the 45W power adapter and the data cable do not come in the box.

Software features

HUAWEI P50 Pro is powered by EMUI 12 that produces an innovative UI with a clean and elegant look. Controlling multiple devices at once is as easy as controlling just one single device, thanks to the Super Device features. The Device+ tab in Control Panel enables users to easily control or set up multi-device collaboration with other devices, such as the HUAWEI Vision, FreeBuds, MatePad, and MateBook. With the Distributed File System, HUAWEI P50 Pro can also function as a wirelessly connected external storage unit for the PC, meaning you can access the files you want more easily than ever before. Using the HUAWEI P50 Pro, users can also transfer MeeTime calls onto HUAWEI Vision smart TV and conduct the call by taking advantage of the larger display, camera, and speakers.

The S22+ will come with the Samsung’s One UI 4.1, which is based on the Android 12 and brings some enhancement in user experience and visual appearance. You also get some new icon packs and new widgets. With this One UI version, Samsung also redesigned the Quick Settings panel. Icons have become more compact, and controls are now more streamlined.

Choosing the right smartphone is not an easy task. While there is a general stigma of rushing to get what’s new, it’s always worth comparing it to see what existing smartphones offer, and the results can be surprising. While the Samsung Galaxy S22+ is a strong contender, the HUAWEI P50 Pro brings to users stellar cameras, a unique look, and long battery life with fast charging speeds making it a better flagship smartphone.
