Qatar declared Monday staggering 1,103 new infections with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) raising the toll of such cases in the small Gulf country to 23,623. Qatari Ministry of Health said in a statement most of the contaminations were among expatriate workers, adding medical teams examined groups of foreign workers in several regions, detecting infections at an early stage.

Moreover, there was rise in infections among citizens and expatriates who had been in close contact with relatives who in turn got the viral bug at work or other places. It also reported 87 recovery cases, bringing total count of such cases to 2,840. Qatar, of nearly 11,000 square kilometer size, is populated by some 2.8 million people, many of whom are expatriates of various nationalities
