Recently released statistics by the Ministry of Justice have disclosed that the Public Prosecution received a total of 23,613 cases from January 1 to August 31. This indicates that the Public Prosecution handles more than 98 cases on a daily basis.
The statistics, a copy of which has been obtained by Al-Qabas daily, shows there were 3,137 felony cases — 531 cases of murder and self-assault, 256 cases of kidnapping and detention, 1,715 related to drugs and psychotropic substances, 236 cases of assault on honor and reputation, along with 1,168 cases of property-related and 2,351 banking cases.
Furthermore, commercial misdemeanor accounted for 4,283 cases, while juvenile misdemeanor cases reached 1,126. Additionally, there were 1,801 check misdemeanor cases.
The statistics revealed that environmental misdemeanor cases numbered 5,762, with information technology cases totaling 2,514, and drug addiction cases standing at 990.
Additionally, a government source informed Al-Qabas that the government plans to take decisions regarding a set of projects to expedite the completion of litigation procedures.
The source mentioned that a project will be implemented to alleviate the workload on the prosecution and the courts, aiming to prevent transaction backlog and reduce documentation cycles, particularly in higher-level courts.
Moreover, there is a focus on accelerating judicial processes and increasing the number of judges in Kuwait.
Challenges arise from a shortage of prosecutors and judges, exacerbated by the surge in population, leading to a significant rise in pending and incoming cases for both the prosecution and the courts.
The source indicated a plan to rejuvenate the prosecution by introducing new personnel, with a proposed increase of up to 30% in each batch of accepted candidates.
In conclusion, the source emphasized the leadership’s strong commitment to providing unwavering support to the judiciary and the prosecution.
