Great efforts were made by the Public Prosecution during 2021 to follow up on the various cases referred to it — 17,075 in 2020, 22,168 cases in 2021.
“According to the statistics prepared by the Information Technology and Statistics Sector at the Ministry of Justice under the leadership of Assistant Undersecretary Sayed Hashem Al-Qallaf, a local Arabic daily gave the details as follows:
Misdemeanors
The total number of misdemeanors cases received increased from 11,602 cases in 2020 to 15,850 cases in 2021, by 4248 cases, or 36.6%.
Statistics indicate that the number of misdemeanors cases in each of: Environmental issues increased from 233 cases in 2020 to 1674 cases in 2021, ie by 1,441 cases, or 618.5%.
Misdemeanors of juveniles
As for juvenile misdemeanor cases, they witnessed an increase from 993 cases in 2020 to 2532 cases in 2021, i.e. an increase of 1539 cases and a rate of 155.0%.
Information technology
With regard to information technology issues, the rates of incoming cases increased from 1,810 in 2020 to 2,183 in 2021, ie by 373 cases, or 20.6%.
Drug addicts
With regard to drug addicts cases, from 625 cases in 2020 to 750 cases in 2021, i.e. 125 cases, or 20.0%.
Also, the number of commercial misdemeanors cases increased from 6,136 cases in 2020 to 6,841 cases in 2021, i.e. by 705 cases, or 11.5%.
The cheques misdemeanor cases increased from 1,750 cases in 2020 to 1864 cases in 2021
Press misdemeanor
Press misdemeanor cases were 38 in 2020 and 35 in 2021
With regard to audio-visual cases, the number of cases decreased from 17 cases in 2020 to 14 cases in 2021.
