The Public Prosecution has issued a decision to detain members of a criminal network that infiltrated the Ministry of Electricity’s network and were arrested by personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department.

These individuals have been remanded to police custody for 21 days and have been transferred to the central prison, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a reliable source.

The source highlighted that the defendants subject to the pretrial detention order consist of seven Arab individuals. Additionally, it is anticipated that additional arrests will be made soon to bring in other individuals for questioning and statement-taking.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior has disclosed that the Criminal Security Sector, specifically the Anti-Cybercrime Department, successfully dismantled the aforementioned criminal network which illicitly breached and tampered with the systems responsible for reading electricity and water meters.

The Ministry of Electricity revealed that in June, its customer services sector detected an attempt by individuals to gain unauthorized access to the automated system responsible for calculating electricity and water consumption bills. The perpetrators exploited the names of certain employees who utilize the system. The system’s location was successfully traced, and surveillance camera footage was reviewed which led to the arrest of the suspects.
