The Kuwait Municipality’s senior management stressed on the need to impose Resolution 215 of 2009 which stipulates setting the working hours for shops located in private residences until 12:00 midnight maximum, with several exceptions including the central markets and pharmacies, as long as prior approvals are obtained from the Ministry of Interior.

According to an Arab daily, the administration received several complaints, but the matter is outside its jurisdiction, based on the cabinet’s assignment to the MoI in 2007, while noting that the MoI had previously acknowledged this task. Also noted in one of the proposals is the approval of the MoI in allowing online commercial activities to carry on, without requiring physical transactions with customers.

The paper quoted the sources stating that the implementation of the decision targets public interest, achieving security in private housing areas, and protecting young people from any negative effects.
