A spokesman for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, said on Wednesday that the couple had been asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage, a country home within the grounds of King Charles’s Windsor Castle that they used to live in when they were in Britain.

The British newspaper ‘The Sun’ had reported earlier that King Charles had offered the house to his brother, Prince Andrew, to live in, reports Al-Rai daily quoting Reuters.

The newspaper added that the decision comes in the wake of offensive remarks by Harry and Meghan about Harry’s father Charles, Harry’s elder brother Prince William and other members of the royal family in his recent memoirs, a Netflix documentary and a series of television interviews.

“We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (the nickname of Harry and his wife Meghan) have been asked to vacate their home at Frogmore Cottage,” a spokesperson for the couple said.

Prince Andrew, the king’s younger brother, was forced to step down from his royal role because of his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But the paper reports that Andrew wants to stay at his current home nearby rather than move to Frogmore Cottage. Buckingham Palace said it would not comment on the report. A royal family source said any such discussions would be a private family matter.

Harry and Meghan moved to Frogmore Cottage, west London, after their marriage in 2018. After giving up their royal duties in 2020, they moved to California, United States, to start a new life and a new career, but Frogmore Cottage remained their home in Britain.

They also agreed to repay 2.4 million pounds ($2.9 million) in taxpayer money that was spent renovating the house.

Eugenie, Harry’s cousin and the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew, and her husband began living in the house after Harry and his wife left, but the newspaper reported that they no longer lived in it.
