Indian Learners Own Academy (ILOA) in coordination with Oxford University Press, India conducted a workshop for the teachers of pre-primary on 16 November in Kuwait. 62 teachers from 15 different schools participated in the workshop.
The main focus of the workshop was on the creative development with a minimalistic resources, Interactive theme boards, dynamic classrooms, Communication and Comprehension, Phonics and reading skills, Folk tools of India for storytelling and Activity based learning. The workshop was conducted resource person MRS. Sonia Relia on behalf of Oxford University Press India.
The workshop began in a traditional way with an English Prayer followed by the recitation from the Holy Quran. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp by the resource person for the day Mrs. Sonia Relia along with the Principal of ILOA, Mrs. Asha Sharma who also handed over a token of appreciation.
Mrs. Sonia Relia has been working with Pre-school and classes 1 & 2 for the past 27 years. She is a specialist in curriculum development & Teachers Training (Pre-Primary to Grade -2), an author and a master trainer of activity based learning. The workshop brings simple hands on program to facilitate teachers to design, create and conduct activities effectively in classrooms with available resource and digital content. Various activities were conducted for the teachers to signify learning with a change. She emphasized more on reading and visualizing the concept taught, the activities and the materials used for the creative learning has been practiced for years over 100 schools pan India.
Teachers had an interaction session with one and another for good learning outcome; most of the activities are based on life skills and communication interaction with large number, group and individual. The importance of phonics and sight words to be taught to the children until the age of 8 was emphasized.
The workshop concluded with the feedback from the teachers and the distribution of the certificates. The teachers were full of appreciation for the workshop as they found it very useful and felt that they could instigate in their teaching strategy. They thanked Mrs.Asha Sharma for organizing this workshop and offering a platform to enrich their knowledge.
