For the second consecutive day, the electricity load index has exceeded the maximum load anticipated by the Ministry of Electricity and Water for this summer, which was set at 16,830 megawatts. This increase in load is attributed to a 4% rise in consumption compared to last summer when the maximum load reached 16,180 megawatts.
Yesterday’s load index reached 16,850 megawatts, while the day before recorded a slightly higher load of 16,940 megawatts, but the temperatures decreased yesterday to 50 degrees Celsius from the previous day’s 51 degrees, reports Al-Qabas daily.
MEW data reveals that water consumption exceeded production by 29 million gallons yesterday. Production was estimated at 477.8 million imperial gallons, while consumption reached 506.8 million gallons. The shortfall was met through the use of the strategic reserve, which stood at 3767.3 million imperial gallons yesterday.
The ministry reported that there were power outages in certain areas of the Zahra region due to two main feeders going out at the main substation south of Surra AW. Emergency teams were quick to restore power.
According to the ministry’s figures, the available safe capacity currently stands at 17,660 megawatts, and the maximum capacity available in the network during this summer is 18,250 megawatts.
Informed sources within the electricity sector expressed confidence in the ministry’s ability to meet the country’s energy demands despite the growing consumption driven by high temperatures. However, they urged consumers to be mindful of their energy usage and avoid wastage by employing energy-saving devices, particularly for lighting and air conditioning.
The sources emphasized the importance of setting air conditioners at 26 degrees Celsius when not in use or during travel and conducting regular maintenance of air conditioning units to ensure their efficiency. By adopting these practices, consumers can contribute to the overall energy conservation efforts.
