Employees of a private company that had been contracted by the Ministry for Service Affairs to engage in sorting and distribution of post, have agreed to call-off their three-day strike following an understanding with the authorities that their grievances would be addressed.
Workers at various postal sorting centers had struck work to protest the non-payment of salaries, the delay in renewing or stamping of residences, and the withholding of passports among a list of complaints against the company that employed them.
The employees said they had agreed to resume work after company officials assured them that their pending salaries would be paid and their other complaints would be solved immediately.
More than 50 workers of the company had earlier filed an official complaint with the Labor Disputes Department of the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) against the company. These complaints are now being investigated by the inspection team at PAM and appropriate action against the company is expected.
