Three Welfare Officers from POLO OWWA distributed financial aid to Overseas Filipino Workers currently residing in Hawally, one of Kuwait’s locked down areas. One hundred thirty-one beneficiaries of the aid came to the designated venue to receive the amount.

In a brief interview with Atty. Llewelyn Perez, Welfare Officer stated that since some of the staffs of OWWA are residents of Hawally, they took the opportunity to manage the distribution to the Filipino residents of the place and a similar event is currently being coordinated in other locked down areas to ensure that those who qualified will receive the amount at the earliest. Perez also announced that there will be distribution even during weekends.

POLO OWWA also request for patience and understanding from OFWs as they are experiencing staff shortages due to some residing within locked down areas with tight security. Mahboula OFW residents have also received third batch of recipients on 4th of June. Hawally residents are asked to stand by for the schedule of the second batch.

Philippine Assistant Labor Attaché Cathy Duladul stated that an estimate of 30,000 OFWs are on “no work no pay” scheme. Some OFWs are also at lost as some of the companies have cut communication with them and that they are left in limbo as to what will happen pertaining to visas and transfers. OWWA Welfare Officers Atty.  Llwelyn Perez, Eduardo Bellido and Genevieve Ardiente spearheaded the distribution in Hawally.

There are 250,000 OFWs in Kuwait who are in conformity of Kuwait’s allocation to expat workers in Kuwait. 60% of which belong to household services, 10% are of professional and skilled and work for established companies and 30% are semi-skilled who work in different sectors.
