The “Global Goal: Unite for our Future” pledging summit, organized by the European Commission and Global Citizen, on Saturday mobilised 6.15 billion euro (USD 6.9 billion).

The money will go for funding to help develop and ensure equitable access to coronavirus vaccines, tests and treatments.

It will also support economic recovery in the world’s most fragile regions and communities, the European Commission said in a press release Monday.

UP to 40 governments including Kuwait took part in the summit and committed to ensuring universal access to coronavirus medicines.

This brings total pledges under the Coronavirus Global Response pledging marathon, launched by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on May 4, to 15.9 billion euro (USD 17.9 billion).
