The Cooperative Work Committee within the Ministry of Social Affairs is currently evaluating a series of suggestions presented by the Union of Cooperative Sector Workers to Sheikh Firas Al-Malik Al-Sabah, the Minister of Social Affairs, Family Affairs, and Childhood.

These proposals, a copy of which has been obtained by the Al-Qabas daily, encompass a range of measures aimed at fostering the involvement of national employees in roles within cooperative societies, thereby generating opportunities for them. These recommendations align with the strategy to reshape demographics as per the directives of Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

Among the propositions is the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to amend the terms and conditions of employment for nationals within cooperative societies, reports Al-Qabas daily.

This includes granting work permits to all individuals employed in the cooperative sector, encompassing Kuwaiti retirees, expatriate workers from Gulf countries, and individuals without legal documentation.

Additionally, a non-renewal clause to be added for employees who are above 60 years old; the proposals also advocate for introducing new job titles in work permits that mirror the designations utilized within cooperative societies.

Furthermore, the suggestions underline the necessity to enhance the conditions of employment for national staff within cooperative societies. This involves enhancing salaries, addressing vacant positions, distributing roles within society departments effectively, and creating conducive work environment. Such improvements are anticipated to motivate and incentivize national workers to actively participate in the cooperative sector.

Additionally, the proposals highlight the significance of assigning an administrative overseer within cooperative societies to keep in check matters concerning national labor. This measure aims to safeguard employees against potential abuses by certain boards of directors in these societies.

It also recommends the delineation of distinct responsibilities for each department and employee within cooperative societies to foster a focused and supportive work environment, especially in supervisory capacities.

The proposals emphasize the importance of linking salaries of cooperative society workers to the mechanization system administered by the Ministry of Social Affairs. This linkage aims to prevent redundancy in employment and undue, unwarranted salary increases that might strain the budget.

The comprehensive plan also outlines efforts to create job openings for national workers while integrating Gulf Cooperation Council citizens into the social insurance framework, in line with decisions made by the Council in 2006, intended to curb manipulation and redundancies.

Jamal Al-Fadhli, the head of the Union of Workers in the Cooperative Sector, told Al-Qabas that these proposals, directed at the competent committee, seek to accelerate Kuwaitization.

He emphasized that pivotal measures for promoting involvement in cooperative work involve the implementation of electronic interfaces with government systems and the elevation of national labor to supervisory roles.
