The Philippine government will most likely lift the temporary suspension of sending domestic workers to Kuwait. Various reasons have been touted for the lift of the temporary ban, one of which is that the decision was originally taken without convincing arguments, reports Al-Rai. The ban resulted due to parliamentary pressure on the government and it also elicited great economic damage, thanks to the suspension of remittances that workers used to send to their families every month.
Al Rai’s sources confirmed that “there are signs and positive indications” of lifting the temporary suspension, with sustained consultations on this matter between the officials of the two countries.
The Philippine Minister of Migrant Labor, Susan Ople, will hold a virtual meeting with some approved domestic labor offices in Kuwait on Tuesday, to discuss lifting the suspension.
The meeting will also include a discussion about the fate of 516 domestic workers who are currently in a labor shelter in Kuwait, and discuss the requirements of lists of committed offices (white lists), in addition to the opinion of the new labor attaché in Kuwait regarding the latest developments.
