The Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport said the authority has finally established a government company affiliated to it with a capital of 10 million dinars.

Currently, government procedures require that the amount be available in the authority’s budget first, and then transferred to the company, reports a local Arabic daily.

The sources added the nascent company will include among its objectives the provision of financial resources for the authority to help it carry out its role through the implementation and management of many projects, and that there are a number of projects that have been put on a list to start with, including projects such as paid parking in the streets, as well as heavy vehicles parking, and the projects to develop the Jaber Bridge islands that the Council of Ministers is currently discussing saying it will also be under its umbrella.

She stated that the company will undertake, in future stages, the implementation of new road projects, just like private sector companies, but it will not be a substitute for those companies, pointing out that the advantages of establishing that company come on top of that, as a government company, it will not go through the usual bureaucratic procedures, and it will also be exempted from all the hiccups.

It is one of the oversight procedures, and therefore the projects that it implements will not need the approvals of institutions such as the Finance Ministry and the Central Agency for Public Tenders and the Fatwa and Legislation Department, but they will, of course, be subject to the control of the State Audit Bureau.
