The Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport is waiting for the budget approval to begin work on 3 major roads and highways development projects which are underway.

A local Arabic daily has learned the three development projects are the Fourth Ring Road, the Fahaheel Expressway, and the third phase of the First Ring Road, all of which are related to solving the problem of congestion in the interior areas and facilitating the movement of traffic.

The PART sources pointed out that a meeting will be held with the Ministry of Finance this week during which the nature of the work concerning the projects will get the focus on priority basis.

Engineer for the roads and intersections project for the city service of Al-Mutla’a, Ali Al-Qazwini revealed that the rate of completion is approximately 84.3, which is by 2.4% ahead of schedule. Al-Qazwini added the contractual value of the project is 108 million dinars, and it is expected to be completed next February within the time limit stipulated in the contract.

The project includes developing the existing Abdali Road and increasing lanes from 3 to 5 in each direction with the construction of infrastructure and services networks, as well as the construction of a multi-free intersection bridge floors with Al Mutlaa City, a tunnel for cars under the new road and a pedestrian crossing.

Al-Qazwini pointed out that the most prominent obstacles that faced the project were the Corona pandemic, and the resulting shortage in the numbers of workers, materials and mechanisms planned to be used in the project, as well as the conflict of some existing services belonging to some institutions and ministries with the project’s work.

He pointed out that the authority has worked in coordination with many parties since the beginning of the project to overcome obstacles and complete it on time, including the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, as it was facilitating and ensuring traffic movement to and from the residential city of Al-Mutla’a during the implementation of the project, as well as linking the project’s roads and services with city roads and services.

He pointed out coordination also was made with the Kuwait Oil Company, the Ministry of Electricity and Water, Ministry of Communication, the Ministry of the Interior and the Kuwait Municipality to follow up the work of road signs and the surrounding land and residential areas.
