Five years after the French ‘Gustave Roussy’ was granted a commercial license to operate in Kuwait, those in charge of the hospital withdrew from working in the country, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Informed sources told that the company through which the Gustave Roussy hospital would work had submitted an official letter to the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority, to cancel the commercial license issued by the authority to conduct its business in Kuwait in 2017.

The same sources said that the decision to withdraw the license came at the request of those in charge of it, explaining that the board of directors of Gustave Roussy recently changed their mind and it seems that the new board of directors changed its previous expansion strategy, contenting itself with working and providing examinations and treatments within the scope of the French Republic.

The sources confirmed that the Authority tried by all means to dissuade those in charge of the ancient French hospital from their opinion and complete their work and localize their health expertise in the country, but the attempts did not succeed, amid the insistence of the French to terminate their commercial license in the country.

Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mazen Al-Nahedh has issued the Ministerial Resolution No. 161/2022 regarding the cancellation of investment license No. 22/2017 granted to the Gustave Roussy Hospital for Cancer Treatment company.

The Council of Ministers had issued a recommendation in 2018 to instruct the Ministry of Finance to expedite the completion of the necessary procedures to implement the localization of the work of the French Gustave Roussy Hospital in Kuwait with the aim of achieving a quantum leap in the development of the health sector in the country.

The aim of establishing the Gustave Roussy Center in Kuwait was to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the health sector, and to keep abreast of the latest developments in the fight against tumors, starting from diagnosis and examinations, up to the use of the latest therapeutic technology, in addition to attracting distinguished doctors around the world.

Among the goals was also to reduce the number of cases of delegation for treatment abroad, and to treat citizens in their home country without incurring the hardship of travel, and for them to receive treatment at home, and among their families.

The Paris-based Gustave Roussy is the first leader cancer-research hospital in Europe and ranked among the top 3 best specialized hospitals in the world for high quality patient care, research and teaching and highly-known for the treatment of skin cancers like melanoma, breast cancer, and lung cancer.
