The issue of the loss of a child is of great concern to parents and the concerned state agencies, given the danger it poses to their safety and lives.

Although a majority of these cases end up peacefully, they pose a threat to the security and safety of children, since they are exposed to traffic accidents or falling from a height or into manholes, etc., as well as being vulnerable to kidnapping.

Most cases of missing children occur in markets where the father or mother is busy shopping and gets lost within moments, especially in overcrowded markets and shopping centers, says Al-Anba daily.

There are incidents of missing children who leave their homes due to disagreement with parents and they seek refuge in the homes of friends or relatives and some even go to a mosque for shelter and a majority of them are unaware of dangers of such behavior.

Over the past years, the country has witnessed many cases of missing children who left their homes and did not return and after arduous search they are found and reunited with their parents.

Among the cases the country witnessed recently, shows a picture of a man taking a child by the hand looking for his relatives in a market. The Ministry of Interior also published several pictures of children reported missing and found in different areas and handed them over to their parents. Not to mention, citizens and residents appealing for help to find their missing children.

Interacting with this issue, Al-Anba took the opinions of a number of specialists who warned the people of its danger, and called on them to pay great attention, especially with the spread of clubs and going out to the sea and swimming pools since their lives may be at risk especially parents who are unaware where their children spend their time for fun and hobbies.

A faculty member at the College of Basic Education, Dr. Khaled Al-Kandari, spoke about this issue from an educational point of view, stressing the necessity of enacting appropriate laws to protect children from kidnappings, being run over by vehicles and loss.

Al-Kandari wondered how parents allow their children on the streets without accountability, indicating that accidents that occur from time to time are due to neglect and indifference to responsibility, and this can only be deterred by law to protect children from neglect.

He went on to say another example is when people leave their children in public parks without supervision and in this case they are prone to become victims of vandalism, loss or picking a bad habit such as smoking at a young age.
