The Public Authority for Manpower has reiterated its commitment to enhancing a refuge center for expatriate laborers and establishing a similar facility for male workers. This initiative aims to offer comprehensive protection to hosted workers and those encountering legal disputes with their employers.

Dr. Fahd Al-Murad, Deputy Director General of the Employment Protection Sector within the Authority, conveyed this intent to KUNA, during the commemoration of International Humanitarian Day (observed on August 19 each year) at the Authority’s Shelter for Expatriate Workers Center.

The event featured collaborative efforts from the Kuwait Red Crescent Society and the Kuwaiti Society for Human Rights.

The Expatriate Labor Shelter Center, overseen by the Public Authority for Manpower, stands out for its humanitarian focus. It diligently addresses the legal, social, and health-related needs of female workers who are personally hosted or are brought in by their country’s embassy, administrative entities, or relevant organizations.

The center takes steps to verify the workers’ information and subsequently works towards rectifying their situations or facilitating repatriation processes.

Al-Murad underlined that since its establishment in 2014, the center has provided assistance to over 13,000 female workers. In the current year, the center has aided more than 960 female workers and facilitated the return of 8 children accompanied by their mothers to their respective countries. Presently, the center is housing 35 female workers.

The expatriate workers’ shelter center stands as a prominent institution in the Middle East, ensuring essential necessities for sheltered workers. The forthcoming phase will see increased engagement with civil society organizations, coupled with advancements in services and infrastructure.

Khaled Al-Ajmi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Society for Human Rights, lauded the Public Authority for Manpower for inviting civil society to participate in the safeguarding of expatriate workers.

Al-Ajmi revealed that the association had forged a cooperative agreement with the center to educate workers about their rights and responsibilities in accordance with Kuwaiti law. This year, the association’s contribution involved the distribution of booklets and pamphlets in seven languages to continue their educational role in preserving the rights and duties of workers of diverse nationalities.
