Recent statistics issued by the Regulating the Recruitment of Domestic Workers Department at the Public Authority for Manpower show that the total money collected from domestic workers recruiting office owners, during the past month, was approximately 52 thousand dinars — 48,421 dinars returned to citizens and residents and 4,238 collected for the benefit of the workers.

The statistics indicated that the total number of recruitment offices registered with PAM is 420, pointing out that the total number of new licenses issued by the authority for offices to recruit domestic workers is 39, while the suspension on 4 offices was lifted.

The statistics showed the total number of complaints received from business owners against workers was 22, while 143 complaints were resolved amicably, 22 complaints of leaving work were registered and referred to the judiciary, in addition to 26 complaints of passport seizures by sponsors were solved and passports returned to their owners.

Director of the Public Relations and Media Department, PAM spokesperson Aseel Al-Mazyed, said Administrative Circular No. (3) of 2022 has been issued to complete procedures for offices and companies recruiting domestic workers, in the public interest and the interests of office owners and companies.

Al-Mazyed said, in a press statement, the circular obliges business owners not to sign any declarations or contracts other than those issued and approved by the authority, with no request for a salary certificate or data for any reason.

Al-Mazyed stated the circular stressed the need not to receive domestic workers who have taken shelter in their respective embassies without the written approval of the Recruitment of Domestic Labor Regulating Department clearly making a mention of the reasons in the event of any dispute between the employer and the worker.

She stressed the need to adhere to the procedures contained in the decision of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry which was issued to regulate the cost of recruiting domestic workers, pointing out that in the event of a violation of the circular, legal measures will be taken and the guilty party will be liable to penalties contained in Law (68/2015) issued regarding domestic workers.
