The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) has taken measures to ‘seize’ several types of powdered infant formula. The move came after receiving a report from the Secretariat of the International Network of Food Safety Officials (Infosan) on the possibility of contamination of powdered milk with bacteria in the United States of America, where the manufacturer of the product exported some of its products to Kuwait including Similac, EleCare, Alimentum.

PAFN called on consumers to keep away from the aforementioned products to protect the health and safety of infants and children. Informed sources told Al-Qabas that the PAFN teams had placed under its custody the quantities that had arrived at the importing company after receiving the communication, indicating that the goods belonging to the company are in a warehouse in the Sulaibiya area.

The sources said the company officials informed the authority’s teams that they did not distribute the products mentioned in the report. According to the sources, the authority’s teams conducted field inspection tours to check the presence or absence of items in cooperative societies and supermarkets.

The sources stated PAFN toured yesterday all governorates but failed to find any products mentioned above but the teams will continue their work in the best interest of the citizens and residents.
