The Director-General of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources, Mishaal Al-Quraifa, praised the new government measures that put limit on non-productive agricultural holdings, in preparation for withdrawing thousands of farms and cattle rearing areas from their beneficiaries which do not benefit food security, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Quraifa, in a statement to KUNA, said the Resolution No. 106/2022 issued by the Minister of Finance Abdul-Wahhab Al-Rasheed includes raising the annual rental fees for animal and plant plots that have no actual production benefit from 6 fils to 100 fils per square meter.

He explained that the non-productive plots of land will be disclosed through tight mechanisms, including the automatic linking of the subsidy to the actual production quantity of the farm whose products are distributed in the approved wholesale markets — Sulaibiya market (Al-Fardah) and others.

He pointed out that the next step is to withdraw plots that do not contribute to real food security, stressing that plant and animal support will be linked to real production automatically and according to strict monitoring equipment during the coming period.

He stressed the implementation of the government’s strategy upon instructions of the political leadership to provide food security, adding that raising financial fees is an explicit decision by the government to identify those who exploit agricultural holdings and state lands allocated for food security by transforming them as mere ‘family gardens’.
