Higher level consultations are being launched today to examine the current crisis between the legislative and executive branches, as well as to resolve the option of the resignation of the government, Al Qabas reported. The Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmed Al-Saadoun, were scheduled to meet with political leaders.

The report added that the government received several parliamentary messages on Sunday, at the same time Al-Saadoun submitted a proposal to amend the electoral system, so that the voter would be granted the right to vote for four candidates, provided that at least one of them is from the constituency in which the voter is registered. The proposal stipulated that the first 50 candidates would be declared victorious, provided that the High Electoral Commission would vote among the candidates with equal votes.

On another note, the Parliamentary Finance Committee rapporteur, Representative Saleh Ashour, confirmed the committee’s position to refuse the withdrawal of its reports on the council’s agenda. He said in a statement that withdrawing the loan purchase law report requires substantial amendments, and that the government requests its withdrawal, and the parliament votes, while the committee stressed its position to not withdraw the reports.

Meanwhile, Representative Muhalhel Al-Mudhaf said that the only way to achieve political stability is the completion of political reform laws, foremost of which is the amendment of the electoral law “proportional lists” and the law of the High Electoral Commission. The official added that the government’s withdrawal from the National Assembly session is “a black point in the history of parliamentary work”, stressing that the Prime Minister should work for the public interest, and implement reform legislation.
