The Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the city of Jerusalem witnessed the consecration of the oil that will be used to anoint the King of Britain, Charles III, during his coronation ceremony next May.
Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilus III and Archbishop Hossam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop, participated in the process of consecrating the oil, reports Al-Rai daily.
In a statement the Buckingham Palace said the oil was consecrated at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Friday morning, the site of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial, according to Christian beliefs.
Camilla, wife of King Charles III, will also be anointed with this Jerusalem oil during the coronation ceremony on May 6, as happened with the mother of Queen Elizabeth at her coronation as wife of King George VI in 1937.
This oil, which is called “miron”, is made from olive oil, then it is scented with a group of other things, sesame, rose, jasmine, cinnamon, orange flower, benzoin incense, and amber.
The oil is produced from the Mount of Olives, one of the mountains of Jerusalem overlooking the Old City.
